Phoenix College vs. College of Southern Nevada Wrap Up

Phoenix College vs. College of Southern Nevada Wrap Up

The Bears fell to 1-1, after a 99-93 loss to the Coyotes of Southern Nevada.  "It was a tale of two halves," Coach Eason said.  PC came out in the first firing on all cylinders, but the second half it was all CSN.  Coach Eason gave us his perspective.

Coach Eason's Review….

Offense

  • Started strong; picking up where we left off from last Saturday.
  • First half we scored 57 points on 53% shooting; including 47% (10-21) from 3pt range, and 100% (5-5) from the free throw line.
  • Another good assist game; 26 assists on 35 made field goals.
  • Turnovers were down; only had 15, which is good.
  • Execution was better on our sets, but our primary and secondary actions were not clean.

Defense

  • Terrible. Gave up 41 points in the first half and 58 in the second.
  • We allowed committed 34 fouls; resulting in 32 points.
  • Missed assignments we scouted; both personnel and action related.
  • Solid rotations and possessions in a miss shot, in the 2nd half, were not rebounded; resulting in 2nd chance points or fouls.
  • Committed 5 fouls on 3pt shots; cost us 13pts.

Personnel

  • Jamar Brown had a great game for us; 20pts, 13rebs, 6asts, 2stls, and 2blks.
  • Mike Rogers had 22pts and 7 assist; but needed to take care of the ball better (7 turnovers) and make open shots (1-9 from 3pt range).
  • Nainoa Peters continued his strong shooting hitting 5 more 3s, he's capable of doing other things, but he didn't add value in the other statistical areas.
  • Dwayne Robinson-O'Hagan gave us a spark off the bench with 7pts, 3rebs, and 3asts.
  • Duane Rogers added 5pts, 7rebs and 3asts

Overview

"This team can win the region, and challenge for a National Championship, but we must find consistency. Games like tonight show what happens against good teams, when you don't stay disciplined; and execute the scouting report to the letter.  Immaturity and poor execution hurt us, and that falls on me as the head coach."

The Bears are back in action at 6pm tomorrow, Saturday, November 12th; against Justice College.  The game will be preceded by the Dr. Noshin "Doc" Rafieei Scholarship Award presentation.  Come out and support the team, and honor the memory of a great PC professor.
