Bears’ ACCAC Week 2 Recap

Bears’ ACCAC Week 2 Recap

The Bears entered the second week of conference play 0-1, after a loss to Yavapai before the Thanksgiving break.  Week 2 was not as expected for the PC men's basketball program, as the Bears fell to Pima 110-99 and Eastern Arizona 79-67.  Coach Eason felt good about the team's chances in both games, but felt there was too much inconsistency in each game.

Coach Eason's review of the week….

Pima 110-99 (Loss)

  • We got off to a slow start on both the offensive and defensive ends, which led to an early deficit.
  • Got on track in the second half offensively; we scored 35 in the first half and 64 in the second.
  • Unfortunately, our defense didn't improve.  It got worse, as we allowed 50 points in the first half and 60 in the second.
  • Rebounding was also poor.  We were out rebounded by 10 (27-37) and gave up 12 offensive boards.
  • 4 players finished in double figures, with Duane Rogers leading the way with 28; including 5 3 pointers.

Eastern Arizona 79-67 (Loss)

  • Started off strong; ended the first half up 32-25.
  • Defense was excellent in the first half.  Weld them to 25 points on 8-31 (25%) shooting from the field.
  • The second half was a complete change of position for both teams.  We shot 37%, while EAC 51%; including 55% from the 3pt line.
  • Rebounding was also terrible, as they beat us 46-29 on the boards; with 21 offensive glass.
  • Jamar Brown (22pts, 6rebs, and 2stls) and Ruben Cazares (12pts, 7rebs, and 2asts) led us.
