The Bears Await National Tournament Bid After Gritty Region I Championship Loss to Pima

Despite a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss to rival Pima Community College, the Phoenix College Bears Men's Soccer team has its eyes set firmly on the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Bears, ranked in the top five nationally all season, finished an exceptional 17-2-1 season as the No. 1 seed in Region I and will now await an at-large bid to the national tournament—a testament to their dominant performance throughout the season.

Phoenix College controlled much of the play in the first half, showing precision and intensity, and came close to taking the lead when a powerful shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Head Coach David Cameron's well-drilled defense and midfield controlled possession and kept the game tightly contested, displaying the skill and discipline that earned them their impressive record.

However, Pima's game-winner came in the 99th minute after a hard-fought match. Phoenix goalkeeper and defensive line were standout performers throughout, fending off the Aztecs' late-game pressure, but a perfectly timed cross led to a heartbreaking finish with just 28 seconds left in overtime.

The Bears have been one of the nation's most consistent and skilled teams, boasting high national rankings and a season that included numerous standout performances. The Bears await a likely at-large bid to showcase their talent and hard work on the national stage from Nov. 17-23 in Huntsville, Alabama.
