Phoenix, Ariz. — The Phoenix College Bears Men's Soccer team captured the Region I Division II Championship on Wednesday night with a 4-2 victory over Pima Community College at Hoy Stadium. With the win, the Bears officially punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Wichita, Kansas, taking place November 16–22, 2025, at the Stryker Sports Complex.
Phoenix College, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, secured the regional crown after already claiming the ACCAC Regular Season and Conference Championships, completing a dominant postseason run.
Sophomore defender Tiernan Nicewander led the Bears with two goals, while Fredy Alvarez and Sergio Jaramillo each added one. Cruzeiro Cruz, Landon Vree, and Nerville Ntui each recorded assists in the win.
After falling behind 1-0 in the 35th minute, the Bears quickly responded with goals from Alvarez and Jaramillo to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Pima leveled the match early in the second half, but Nicewander's brace—highlighted by an 86th-minute strike—sealed the championship for Phoenix College.
Goalkeeper Jan Villegas made four saves to anchor the Bears' defense.
With the Region I title secured, the Bears will now prepare to represent Arizona at nationals as they look to bring home another championship to Phoenix College.
