We caught up with Coach Heinz Mueller after the reveal of the Week Six NJCAA Division II Softball Rankings. Here is what he had to say:
Moving into week seven who has been your top performers and who has stepped up?
- Our pitching staff is 2nd in the conference in ERA 3.36
- Alexis Ayersman 5th in the conference 11-3 with first with a 1.65 ERA
- Danitza Hernandez hitting .467 9th in the conference with 17 home runs
- Loganne Stepp hitting 2nd on our team .464
- Bella Angelo hitting .430 with 13 home runs
How do you feel your team has improved from the start of the season?
- "Right now we are right where we want to be for this new team. We replaced 7 starters and the entire bullpen and as you well know it is a growing and maturation of our team. We are going through adversity and we will come out of this where we need to be at regionals. We have a fine group of young ladies and they are working hard at practice everyday. The weather has caused us to be inconsistent however like I said it is a work in process
Your team remains in the Top 10 as far as the weekly rankings prove, what has your team learned from the losses that have taken place?
- "Actually our rankings at the start of the season was a misrepresentation of the kind of team we were at the beginning and we are now where we should be. However this is the month we need to continue to improve. The thing that will drive our team the rest of the way is self motivation"
Any comments regarding moving forward into the rest of the regular season?
- I always say "It is where you finish not where you start"
With the halfway mark of the regular season closing out, the Phoenix College Softball Team is 30-8 overall and 21-3 at home. They are currently ranked #7 in the country.
