Phoenix College Bears Women's Soccer Sets Sights on Region I Title

The Phoenix College Women's Soccer team recently triumphed over Pima Community College in back-to-back matchups, proving their resilience as they prepare to defend their Region I, Division II title. The Bears, with standout junior midfielder Chloe Corral and forward Carmen Coronado, have showcased their skill and teamwork as they aim for another championship on November 6.

In the first game, Phoenix College claimed a 2-1 victory, rallying from a goal by Pima's Lizzie Walker in the 28th minute. Corral, demonstrating her leadership and scoring prowess, leveled the score at 33:15 with an assist from Renata Manriquez. Later, Carmen Coronado secured the game-winner in the 80th minute, assisted by Ariany Mapula.

In the second match, Phoenix came out strong, with Corral scoring twice in the first half, assisted each time by Manriquez. This quick 2-0 lead was nearly unshaken until Walker scored for Pima in the 80th minute, ending the game at 2-1 for another Phoenix victory. Phoenix College outshot Pima 9-3 and led in saves 7-2, solidifying their defensive and offensive strength.

Recently honored as the Player of the Year, Carmen Coronado continues to be instrumental for the Bears. Her ability to create goal-scoring opportunities and impact each game has been invaluable, especially as the Bears advance toward the Region Finals.

With Corral's stats for the season highlighting her exceptional performance—20 GP, 15 G, 4 A—she enters each game as a constant scoring threat, her accuracy a key to the team's success. Both Coronado and Corral are poised to lead Phoenix College as they seek a third consecutive Region title and a potential run at the national level.
