Bears Open Cross Country Season at Mesa Early Bird Open

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Phoenix College Cross Country kicked off its 2025 season on Saturday at the Mesa Early Bird Open, hosted by Mesa Community College. The meet featured runners from Glendale Community College, Tohono O'odham Community College, and Estrella Mountain Community College, along with the host MCC.

The men's field competed in an 8K, while the women's race covered 5K. Every Phoenix College runner recorded a personal best in the season opener, setting a strong tone for the year ahead.

Freshman Dominic Giacoletti-Diaz made his collegiate debut in the men's 8K, finishing in 31:48. On the women's side, freshman Yuridia Ballesteros De La Cruz also ran her first collegiate race, crossing the line in 25:58.80. She was joined by returning runners Evelyn Osorinio (22:40.38) and Star Espinoza (24:26.37), who each delivered personal-best performances.

The Bears will look to build on their opening success when they return to action at the George Kyte Classic in Flagstaff, AZ, on Aug. 30.
